The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal was established in 1961 and is awarded for participation in military operations not covered by a specific war medal. The medal is awarded to any member of the United States Armed Forces for US military operations, US operations in direct support of United Nations and United States operations of assistance to friendly foreign nations after 1 July 1958.
