Roosevelt expanded the award of the Purple Heart to members of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard in 1942. Variations of the Purple Heart are shown as well as examples of how it is worn as a ribbon, miniature medals, full-size medals and displayed by veterans or their families.
